National Forest For Wales Ceredigion 23-25
Ceredigion LNP worked with contractors and volunteers to restore access to a woodland at Coed Taliesin. Large pine trees blown over in storm Darragh were blocking paths and were dangerous. There was also a lack of storage to keep equipment, which limited the work volunteers could do on site and the accessibility to people with additional needs.
Contractors felled the dangerous trees and milled them into timber, and volunteers were upskilled to be able to use the timber to construct a tool shed and create a coppiced hazel handrail. Participants ended each volunteering day with an outdoor cookery session.
Following the six volunteering sessions that took place during the project period, the site has continued to be used by the local community as it is now more accessible. A Friends of Coed Taliesin group was established, and meets regularly. They aim to use the remainder of the timber produced on site to create further infrastructure and allow school visits and supported volunteering sessions as part of a therapy programme for clients of a nearby day centre.
