Coastal Coordinators

Creating a Network of Coastal Co-ordinators

The Coastal Co-ordinator Challenge Fund is a grant scheme funded by Welsh Government to build capacity for local projects in coastal areas of Wales. It does this by engaging with key partners and stakeholders across coastal communities to achieve positive outcomes for resilient marine ecosystems.

Three co-ordinators have been funded across Wales. These co-ordinators are supported by the Local Nature Partnerships in Gwynedd, Monmouthshire and Pembrokeshire. Their roles have been funded from October 2025 to March 2028.

Each co-ordinator is responsible for maintaining a coastal partnership or forum in their local area to identify local links, challenges and opportunities. They will also work together with the other co-ordinators to ensure cohesion and make a bigger difference.

Beyond this, areas of work will include:

  • Developing ocean literacy and education initiatives which deliver to the framework, Y Môr a Ni
  • Providing a better local and place-based evidence base for decision making
  • Identifying practical marine restoration projects and alleviating pressures
